What do we believe?

We are a voluntary association of Christians who have agreed together on what we see as the essential beliefs and order for harmonious living.

The basis of our beliefs is summed up in the historic Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689 as modernized and amplified by The Baptist Affirmation of Faith, 1966 and A Guide for Church Fellowship. The following is a summary of some of the things that we believe.

We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired, authoritative and inerrant Word of God and is our rule for our faith (what we believe) and for our practice (how we should live our lives). We believe that it contains absolute truth and is therefore relevant for all time for all people.

We believe in One God, the Creator, upholder and sustainer of the whole universe.

We believe in Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God.

We believe in the virgin birth of the Lord Jesus and that He became a man for us without in any way giving up His Godhead. We believe that He came to earth so that He could redeem mankind from sin and its effects. He died for our sin on the cross, but He rose again the third day and later ascended into heaven.

We believe that Jesus will come again as the judge of all the earth.

We believe in the Holy Spirit.

We believe that God created man perfect and upright and gave him instructions as to how to live. These instructions are summarised in the 10 Commandments and in Jesus' command to love one another. Man, however disobeyed God and went his own way and now lives in a state of alienation from God and is at enmity with Him.

We believe that when people turn to God and are truly sorry for their rebellious attitude towards Him and for their sins, God is gracious and merciful and forgives those who really repent.

We believe that when a person is truly forgiven he or she will really want to be able to live life in God's way and want to please Him. He will want to meet with others who love God and want to learn more of what the Bible teaches.

We believe in the resurrection of the body and eternal life for all who truly love God.

We believe that as believers we are to specifically obey Jesus' command to 'make disciples of all nations;' we try to do this by sharing our faith with others and by supporting missionaries in as many ways as we can.
